STUDIO203 IN THE NEW 'YOUR HOME' BOOK

Our Lilyfield House serves as an example for ‘less is more’ when it comes to materials in the Australian Government’s new Your Home book.  The new edition aims at improving the energy efficiency of Australian homes and helping Australians save on energy costs and reduce their carbon footprint, which will ultimately contribute to Australia’s emission target. The new Your Home book also contains free floor plans with basic drawings and specifications for Australia’s different climate zones.

At studio203 we favour materials in their ‘raw’ form and employ ‘applied’ finishes only sparingly and when indispensable. We expose building structure internally by leaving layers off and leverage materials for dual purposes, as structural base layer and finish at the same time.

This approach not only saves reduces constructions costs and waste, it also avoid toxic coatings and components often inherent in applied finishes, and minimise ongoing maintenance. The strategic use of fewer materials performing multiple roles results in an understated simplicity and augments sustainable outcomes.
